Ham and Cheese Pinwheel Appetizer
This easy ham and cheese pinwheel appetizer will be a sure hit at your next gathering! Made with creamy havarti, salty ham and honey dijon mustard all rolled into a flaky puff pastry pinwheel!
It’s the holidays and we’re all looking for easy appetizers and finger foods to serve our guests. Whether you’re hosting a Friendsgiving, or just having friends over to watch the game, these ham and cheese pinwheels will be a hit! You could actually make the pinwheel log ahead of time and pop in the refrigerator or freezer. When you’re ready to bake, cut your pinwheels and pop them into the oven!
Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels
Ingredients
- 1 sheet thawed puff pastry
- 1 tbsp flour, for dusting
- 3 tbsp honey dijon mustard
- shredded havarti (swiss or gruyere would also work here)
- 7-8 slices sliced deli ham
- chives for garnish
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a flour dusted surface, roll out 1 sheet of thawed puff pastry.
- Spread the honey dijon mustard in a thin layer on the puff pastry.
- Add shredded havarti (or your cheese of choice) on top of the mustard layer.
- Add a layer of ham slices, overlapping slightly.
- Roll the puff pastry into a log as tightly as possible.
- Pop the rolled log into the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
- Remove log from freezer and cut into 1 inch pinwheels and place onto parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until puff pastry is golden brown.
- Garnish with chives and enjoy!
Notes:
I suggest flouring a piece of parchment paper. This makes it easier to roll the log and place into the freezer.
You can also use any melty cheese instead of havarti! I found an herbed havarti for this recipe and it came out delish! Use whatever you like.
Placing the log in the freezer makes the pinwheels easier to cut.
Roll the log as tightly as possible, as the pinwheels will separate a little while baking.
